welcome

I was pleasantly surprised when I exited the lift to visit a law firm office today to see my name up in lights on the message board (like those ones at the stock exchange giving quotes). "Welcome w-ko from China Law & Practice". Wow! I didn't know I was that important to warrant such a welcome. Damn! I wish I had taken a photo of the signage with my phone but then I didn't want to give the impression that I was 'wowed' by it due to keeping the integrity of the editorial chapter, which I am going to write. Damn objectivity and impartiality. If I ever get my own place, I will consider setting up a message to board at the front door to welcome my visitors.

Today I was given "gifts" from various law firms ranging from a map of Beijing in a nice leather case, laser pointer thingy, a portable USB memory stick (very useful) and a card holder - Does anyone want laser pointer thingy or a card holder? I have also been taken out to lunch but it didn't involve any duck for which this city is famous for. Do they think they can bribe me with and tokens of appreciation? I don't think so - but duck - duck is a totally different matter.

Speaking of duck, I went to China's equivalent of ToysRus last night after dinner. Would you believe they sell roasted duck in bags at the entrance? I'm actually considering purchasing one to bring back to Hong Kong but I'm not sure if it has to be consumed immediately as I still have three days left of my trip.

Quack! I must go in search of food now.
