Also known as beekeeping. I stopped work in the pods around me this evening when I posed the question - What is the fancy schmancy name for beekeeping? Despite assistance from Wikipedia and Google my colleagues failed to deliver. I think this lot are crap at research if you ask me.
Why did this question crop up? Well, one of my work colleagues asked me where I planned to retire. Naturally I indicated New Zealand in the year 2039 when I get my MPF benefits! My work colleague said she would like to live on an island and be self-sufficient with a farm and growing her own vegies.
I couldn't help but to cause some shit-stirring and I asked - so, what about electricity and water? What about animals getting diseases? Drought and flood? What are you going to eat then? Chickens and don't forget the goat!
Then she said well, if there was disease she would fish for meat rather than eat red meat.
Then I asked, where is this island?
"Tasmania!"
Oh I forgot to mention about the bees. She said she was going to beekeep for honey and that's when I asked my question.
If I had a farm, the requisite animals will be chickens, ducks, pigs, a cow and a llama.

Has a study been done to see whether animals come out "funny" due to massive inbreeding (as in the royal family).
Hi
dogs come out funny from inbreeding, for example, maltese terriers often have problems with internal organs. Now you mostly see malteses cross breeds, with proodles, Shihtzus etc (spelling?).
