Avila
Ávila is another world heritage listed fortress south of Madrid. It's the ideal blueprint for building sand castles!
See! (That would be me in the pink hat).
It easier to walk around Ávila as it was not as steep as Toledo. There were less buildings worth of note and the town square was undergoing refurbishment. It seemed like the place to get married in because a lot of people were dressed-up but the bride was nowhere to be seen. Inside, the streets were lined with retail shops, hotels and restaurant.
Ávila's specialties are yemas de Avila made of yolk and sugar. It's like eating a candied yolk. There was no armous in sight. Perhaps they should have sold a spade and a bucket because I felt like going to the beach after my visit.
You will find miniatures of Saint Teresa in the souvenir shops. She was born in Ávila. Apparently, her miracle is known in Catholicism as the "odour of sanctity." The night she died, her monastic cell in Ávila was said to fill with a pleasant fragrance. When her body was exhumed 330 years after her death, her coffin emitted the same heavenly fragrance. It couldn't have been that heavenly because I didn't see any perfumerias around.
For lunch we went to a Michelin recommended restaurant called 'barbacana'. Has the best coquettes ever! The beef jerky was not bad either. Have you ever been served a sandwich where the cut a circle out to show you where the yolk is? In this town, it's all about the yolk. I can't show you the other photos of the food because I'll start salivating again. It was a damn fine meal.
Youtube
I know. I have too much time on my hands but I also made a video!
I'm so jealous! I'd just been thinking about making a Sg video about a week ago - then you posted this!!
Sounds like you had a fantastic holiday. I have 6 weeks off at the end of this year, so am definitely doing Thailand. Let me know if you're interested in doing some elephant riding ad curry.

those birds look like they're flying real low
Nah, they were way up high. It must be just the angle of the camera.
