Back from Gaul

Let this be known that I am the pioneer of the star jump in front of famous landmarks. The two guys behind me started jumping (you can tell they are amateurs) when they saw me leap for joy and it had a domino effect as we were walking down the Champs De Mars as copy cats were spotted.

Did anyone miss me? I now know I can make it for an entire week without internet or email. This was replaced by art, shit loads of art, crepes, macarons from Laduree, eclairs from Angelina's, camembert, baguettes and chocolate. A nice trade-off I think. I came back and there were 22 emails in my inbox including one from the Hong Kong taxation department giving me notice that they have given me a whole two days to lodge my tax return after I requested an extension because I am presently overseas.

Lutetia (Paris)

I did all the things a typical tourist would do, climbed the stairs up to the Eiffel Tower (only because it was a two hour wait for the elevator), went to see Mona's smile at the Louvre and went to the Musee d'Orsay on the same day to see Renoir, Seurat, Klimt, Van Gogh etc... I wonder if anyone has ever attempted both on the same day? Well, I did it and my feet paid for it but it can be done. What else? Victor Hugo's maison, Versaille, Montmatre, History of Paris Museum, Arc de Triumphe, Notre Dame. I walked passed the Dame nearly everyday because we stayed on the Left Bank near the cathedral. Not a hunchback in sight. Only skaters and gypsies, none of whom was named Esmeralda.

My French is as bad as my Spanish. I was lining up at the markets for crepe that was made by a crepe artisan and his wife took the order. I wanted a ham and cheese crepe, a cheese crepe and a lemon and sugar crepe. I received a ham and cheese crepe, a lemon crepe and a sugar crepe.
Is it possible to be creped out? You really can't consume too much of a good thing.

More photos.

It's too bad theres a barrier for the mona lisa, now it's just become this god of all paintings celebrity that nobody really looks at, and isn't appreciated in a traditional sense as a piece of artwork that can actually be fairly judged.

I'd bet money that it's now known as the Da Vinci code painting.

Compared to other paintings that were at the Louvre, Mona was not that great. It's simply the publicity that has been generated through time that makes people want to pay homage to the lady. Songs, movies and books have been written about her. It is a shame though that a lot of the other galleries remain empty. But all the better for me. I had some rooms to myself. Also, a lot of the travel groups have limited time so they all go and flock to see the top billing paintings.

i was at eiffel tower and louvre museum a week before you. imagine how it was like if our paths had crossed?! lucky you! i had bad weather on that day so my pics didn't look as fantastic as yours. still...it was all good.

SL: How nice to hear from you again. Quite. Imagine if our paths have crossed. I can't believe we were in the same country within the space of a week. We had bad weather the first day we were there and then it started to clear up and blue skies for the rest of the week. Did you go anywhere else in Europe?

i know!!! alas! well, then again, you don't want to "bump" into me on the streets of paris. i might squeal and scream out loud in delight/surprise and give you a hug while jumping up and down in excitement, you would have thought a lunatic just escaped from the asylum, was hugging you.

yeah, same here. first 2 days' weather sucked but got better over the weekend and it was so good when i left. boy, europe really hated me, they celebrated once i departed.

i only went to london (sg-london-paris-dubai) and stopped at dubai on my way home (hot like hell, 45ish degrees celsius. i thought my jeans were on fire, no joke, i actually checked when i got out of the car).

Ha! Well, I have no idea what you look like so you would have to be the one to recognise me. I'm sure we'll meet one day. HK and Singapore are so close to one another.

Really! I didn't know Dubai got that hot. I have a friend from Australia who moved there to work. It would have been an interesting stopover though. Next time I'm travelling to Europe I want to go via Russian Air and stop in Moscow. I want to avoid London at all costs. The security check took about 30 mins. I was not impressed.
