Gaudi - Pt 2

La Sagrada Familia

The new and the old.

Just when I thought Gaudi could not outdo himself after visiting the Cassa Batlló, I arrive at the Sagrada Familia (Temple of the Sacred Family) that began construction roughly 100 years ago and it's still yet to be completed. My plans are to return to Barcelona in 2028 the new estimated time for completion. I entered through the backdoor (the newer section) and their was Jesus and a hundred other sculptures surrounding it. When you actually step inside, it's mind blowing to think what they can do with stone. I don't care what the new seven wonders of the modern world are but this should have been included even though incomplete.

There was a huge line to go up one of the towers but by this stage my feet were killing me because I walked all the way from the hostel, so the thought of standing in line wasn't appealing. (Sorry Caroline!)

The front section is of course much older than the new section. It's of the nativity scene and there's just so much to look at you really have to construct a frame with your hands in order to pinpoint just exactly what everything is. It's a masterpiece up close but it looks like a mouldy paper mache from afar.
