Schindler
You know that scene in Schindler's List where the little girl in red is walking through the streets of Krakow in the black and white background? Well, I've finally worked out how to do it in photoshop. I'm not sure what the technical term for it is but I have termed it 'Schindling'. I'm sure The V will concur.

is it a level adjustment thing?
there's probably an easier way of doing it but i make a copy of the photo, convert the first layer to black and white, then use the wand to select what i want to cut out, create another layer then drop the cut out back onto the black and white, play with the transparency and bob's your uncle!
I was afraid you'd have to use the wand. I'll experiment when I get home.
