Friends

This morning I was woken up by SMS that my friend Jojo had safely delivered another human into the world. Happy Birthday to Sam! The message woke me up around 4.30am. Needless to say, I read the message and went back to bed.

At 7.00am, I was woken up by the phone. Who on earth calls someone up at 7am in the morning on a Saturday? I picked up the phone and hung up. Then about 30 seconds it rang again. I picked it up - it was one of my Oz friends (and I must guiltily admit that I gave instruction to him to call me at this godforsaken hour in order to catch me at home).
Good morning!

He told me one of our closest friends X was in hospital and that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
WHAT! Say again! But X is younger than both of us. It's not possible.
After calling X in hospital, apparently it is the very sad truth and now I'm even more glad that I'm going home in November so I can visit him. He is undergoing chemotherapy next week. He says he couldn't believe it was happening to him. Neither can I. It's just all very sudden.
