Quote of the day
"I pledge to participate voluntarily and to queue up voluntarily and to be a civilised citizen ... so as to win glory for the homeland and bring honour for the Olympics." - Ms Meng and other volunteers who are part of a campaign to eradicate queue-jumping.
Yeah, but will it last after the 2008 Olympics? And have you read about the mice food tasters? Perhaps past drug cheats should volunteer to provide this service instead of subjecting innocent rodents to this ordeal.

Belated obituary
I always write an obituary for the dearly departed who has in some way been a huge influence
on my life so far. The last obituary I wrote was for Pat Morita (aka Mr Miyagi). Earlier this year I forgot to pay tribute to Momofuku Ando (aka Mr Cup Noodles) who passed away aged 96. Were it not for the cup noodle, I would have starved during my university days when pulling all-nighters for those essays I had all semester to do but never got around to doing until the last minute. Yes, you know the ones.

Yes, you know the ones. My next trip to Japan will include a stop at the Momofuku Ando Ramen Museum, where for the bargain price of 300 yen, you get to create your own cup noodle! I've been to the ramen museum in Shin-Yokohama and although it does possess a vast ramen bowl collection, I don't think it will be able to rival the ramen tunnel of history at the Ando museum.
I spotted Cup Noodles - cheese and curry flavoured at the Japanese supermarket. It has yet to be opened but I'm sure I'll be writing a food review on it during the week.

Perhaps Cup Noodles should be the official sponsor of universities across the world. Seems like everyone lived off them.
Chinese citizens behaving themselves for the tourists? I'm most looking forward to about Day 8 of the Olympics when some poor soul finally cracks under the pressure of being polite and starts shoving people out of the way while singing the Chinese national anthem : "I can't take it anymoreeeeeeee!"
HA! Suggestion to BOCOG- set up a 1800 hotline for citizens who can't pretend to be civilised anymore. I can also imagine the instructions over the phone:
C: "I have impure thoughts and feel the urge to spit."
O: "Locate a bucket, or any container.
"Clear your throat and breathe deeeply. Once you feel the phflem lodged in the back of your throat, aim and project the phflem into the bucket... Feel better?"
