Today I've spent too many hours in front of the computer and have neck and back pain. Today I told our Malaysian writers who are producing the conference material that their work is basically unusable and they will have to re-write. After all these years of being an editor, I do sometimes wonder how diplomatic I am when it comes to giving feedback of an author's work particularly if they have agonised and slaved over a submission and then to have someone criticise the work? It's not all about providing negative feedback. I do pepper my feedback with words of encouragement as well. I do know for a fact that my Malaysian authors have cut and pasted huge chunks of an already published paper - to used the word plagiarised is undiplomatic
We had a heatwave and my entire school of cardinal tetras died. I should have put an ice cube in the water. Damn!
Also, in the last few weeks, I've had a series of Aussie friends advising me that they'll be in Hong Kong either on holiday or moving here! Yay! Okay enough. My eyes are killing me.

That's good news for you and Honkers! Wish I was one of them. I got the hard travel bug back again by visiting Sg. Figure I'm not supposed to live at 'home' like other people.
Plagiarism? Not uncommon from Asian-educated writers (as opposed to western-born/educated Asian writers!) - ooooops, am I too jaded?? Sorry, I encounter this far too often from my students when they're trying to produce something 'academic'. Don't be soft. If they're in the industry and making it as writers of any kind then they need to learn how to paraphrase and cite and just plain use original ideas. Show no mercy, Kung Editing Fu Master!
133: Hey! When did you get back? Well, I am very overdue for a holiday. And before you get a chance to rub my nose in it, yes I know we have slipped down the ladder a teeny tiny bit (God only knows how we got beaten by the Blues) but there's still plenty of time to make amends.
Re: My Malaysian writers are threatening to pull out of the conference altogether. I personally thought that was an over-reaction. We paid them to write something and just because I'm not happy with their "borrowed" material they can't even get their act together to put pen to paper like all paid authors are meant to do.

who's going to hong kong?
SL: Thanks for the links. I don't think any of them take my fancy. Perhaps it's the over usage of gel in the hair and cheesy grins. There is a really cute guy who plays Henry (the accountant) on Ugly Betty. I think he's cute but it may have to do with the nerd factor and the character he plays.
you're most welcome. i'll check him (henry) out soon...we've ugly betty every sunday at 10pm. a bit late cos i've to work early the next day. i've a soft spot for nerdy guys...
