Back in the saddle

I received some great news from my dear friend Todger who announced he was back in the saddle (or is it back on the wagon?) after battling with cancer for the last eight months. I'm so relieved and happy for him. I better start saving for our long overdue hiking trip to Patagonia next year.

Meanwhile, my 96 year old grand-aunt is also on the mend. All medical aids and tubing have been removed from her wrists and she is breathing easy again. I bought her a mini hairbrush (cause she has the Albert Einstein thing happening) and some Vitamin E cream. But she was asleep when I went to the hospital this evening after work so sat around for about half an hour until my stomach made noises. I had to resort to drawing her a doodle - person with hair brushing action and a pic of a hand holding cream and dollops of cream on arm action. Indeed it was a strange looking note and I signed it off with my Chinese name. This is what an indequate Chinese person who can't write Chinese has to resort to. Doodling cartoons for a 96 year old and hoping that she'll understand that it's not some kind of trick question that she has to decipher. I hope she gets it. She's never played Pictionary before.

By the way, is everyone eating properly? Have you had your bit of fruit and nuts (no, reading this blog does not count) for the day? You know, raisins do not get enough credit in the dried fruit world. I mean, raisin toast is one of the best things in the world. I went to the bakery to stock up on baked goods this evening and I spent HK$72 on bread. Life is too short to eat crap bread. The Little Mermaid bakery at Citysuper is TOPS!

Glad to hear your friend is getting better.
Has the grand-aunt experience inspired you to further your reading and writing?

133: I can't say my grand-aunt has encouraged my learning of the Chinese language. My mentality is that if I can get by without formal learning then I'm doing okay. I can recognise more and more characters but if you asked me to write it, I won't be able to do it. However, I would like to learn some Spanish in the next 12 days!
