Pedicure

My first pedicure ever was not a bad experience. In fact, now I can see why people do foot spa treatments. Oh yes, I went for bright red. Well, if this was going to be my first time I might as well go all out. I couldn't stop staring at my toes for the first 30 minutes. I feel like I have 10 Ferraris hanging off the end of my feet. HL, my sister-in-law took me to her manicurist/pedicurist. She's had a good run of nail art. Red with white polka-dots, glitter nails and currently sporting a French manicure.

If you've never had a pedicure before, left me run you through what happens.

  1. They soak your feet in a warm tub of Dettol.
  2. One foot is lifted out and then start sanding away your dead skin on the soles of your feet with a foot sander by sprizting stuff on it. For the calluses they are removed with an instrument that kind of looks like a bottle opener but with a razor-like blade attached to it. Yep, they basically shave off your calluses.
  3. Nail clippers like surgical instruments are used to clip the corners of the nail.
  4. A small pair of scissors are then used to remove the dead skin around the nail. I have to say that was painful. I saw a tiny little spot of blood on my second toe. Alcohol spray was sprayed on my toes after this process to cool everything down.
  5. However, number 4 was not as painful has snipping off the cuticles and getting them pushed back. There was a lot of spraying with an assortment of liquids after that.
  6. Finally, moisturiser was applied on feet and legs.
  7. Nail base was applied, then the red nail polish I had picked out and then a third layer of shiney varnish.
  8. My feet were put under a nail drying machine for about 5-10 minutes.
  9. I put my flip flops on and that was it.
The entire process took 45 minutes as promised and costed $280. New black Havaianas were purchased. It's the only pair of shoes I'm buying this summer but I'm thinking about a new shade of nail colour already. Perhaps something more sedated.

No. But I can tell you when I see it.

I got my nails done last summer, took about two hours, and wasn't painful at all. Maybe the Japanese go to lengths for it not to hurt meaning it takes longer?

The big question is, are you now a convert and likely to do it all the time?

Two hours! Did you get a manicure as well? I can't do my hands because I feel like there is too much weight on my fingers.

I'm only getting them done when my sister-in-law is getting hers one. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to things like this.

Me too. Nope, just feet, I was bored silly by the end (probably why I haven't done it again).
